BUAC, a parent driven, grassroots level coalition\nof\nover 300 community partners, accomplishes this by promoting\ncollaboration\nand community leadership to reduce racial, ethnic, and economic health\ndisparities in asthma prevalence, asthma management, and asthma hazards\nin\nthe home, school, and other environments. \n\nIn 2007, BUAC received funding to create the Massachusetts Asthma\nAdvocacy\nPartnership (MAAP). MAAP, a statewide coalition of partners, is\ncommitted to\nreducing asthma health disparities in the Commonwealth by coordinating\nstatewide advocacy efforts. MAAP links to local efforts across the state\nby\nbringing together community organizations and other partners to achieve\nsustainable statewide changes in the environment, education, and the\nquality\nof health care. MAAP's comprehensive approach includes, supporting\nreimbursement for asthma education and home visitation, supporting local\nhealth departments to take on healthy and green housing issues,\npromoting\nawareness of occupational asthma among the general public, supporting\nschools to reduce toxins in the school environment and supporting\nenvironmental justice issues through legislation.\n\nIn order to be effective in these roles, the new Director will need to:\n\n* Mobilize and engage a diverse group of staff, parents, and other\ncoalition\nmembers at the local level to actively participate in and set the agenda\nfor\nBUAC. \n* Develop a coordinated, statewide response to asthma by mobilizing and\nengaging a diverse group of community and statewide partners to develop,\nadopt, and promote an advocacy agenda that cuts across geographic\nboundaries\nand addresses the rising prevalence of asthma in Massachusetts.   \n* Work with the Steering Committees, Working Groups, and TMF's\nDevelopment\nOffice to create and maintain a diverse funding base to sustain\nBUAC\/MAAP's\nefforts. \n\nDuties &amp; Responsibilities: \n\nProgrammatic:\n* Provide leadership, program development, and program management for\nBUAC\/MAAP projects and initiatives. \n* Work with the BUAC\/MAAP Steering Committees and Working Groups to\ndevelop\nprogrammatic and policy directions to reduce asthma rates across the\nstate. \n* Implement program initiatives and projects, including, but not limited\nto:\ncommunication, education and outreach strategies, research projects,\npolicy\nand advocacy efforts, coordinating local and statewide meetings, and\nother\nactivities as needed. \n* Lead program administration efforts, including strategic planning,\nmanaging grants, building and maintaining strong communication with\ndiverse\nstakeholders, and meeting all reporting requirements for funders. \n* Work with Steering Committees and Working Groups to assess and\nevaluate\nprogram and policy efforts. \n\nManagement &amp; Supervision:\n\n* Recruit, supervise, and manage BUAC\/MAAP staff, interns, and any other\npersonnel hired to assist with projects and events. \n* Conduct staff performance reviews annually. \n* Develop and support staff in attaining professional development goals.\n\nBudget &amp; Finance:\n\n* Work with TMF's Finance Department to develop, manage, and track\nBUAC\/MAAP's diverse funding base. \n* Identify opportunities for maintaining and\/or expanding BUAC\/MAAP\nfunding\nbase through grants, donations, and other funding sources. \n* Work with TMF Director of Development to research and write grant\nproposals for projects and activities approved by the BUAC\/MAAP Steering\nCommittees. \n\nInternal &amp; External Relations:\n\n* Develop, engage, and maintain strong relationships with key\nstakeholders\nincluding, but not limited to: BUAC\/MAAP Steering Committees and Working\nGroups, The Medical Foundation, parents and other community residents,\nlocal\ncommunity-based organizations, medical community, faith community,\ngovernment and elected officials (local, state and federal), academia,\nhousing, school, local residents, and other critical partners. \n* Work with staff to develop and implement plans for engaging key\ncommunity\nleaders including parents and other community and statewide agencies. \n* Work with TMF to develop and maintain the BUAC\/MAAP website and manage\nmedia relations including BUAC\/MAAP publicity and promotion. \n* All other tasks and duties as needed. \n\nQualifications: \n\n* Bachelors degree (Master's degree a plus) and a minimum of 7 years\nexperience in a leadership role in public health, environmental health,\npublic policy, or other relevant field. Senior management experience, a\nplus.  \n* Demonstrated experience, skill, and track record in community\nplanning,\noutreach, community and parent organizing, coalition development and\ncollaboration, and project implementation. \n* Effective leadership skills with the ability to motivate individuals\nto\ndevelop priorities and effectively implement strategies to address\npriorities. \n* Experience in effectively managing and supervising full and part time\nstaff and volunteers. \n* Strong organizational development, fundraising, fiscal management,\nproblem-solving, and facilitation skills. \n* Experience in effective advocacy and policy development leading to\nsystems\nchange. \n* Experience in working in a multicultural environment. \n* A personal commitment and experience with promoting social justice and\naddressing health disparities and effecting change in low income and\ndiverse\ncommunities. \n* Excellent written and oral communication skills. \n* Strong analytic and computer skills. \n* Demonstrated networking and partnership-building skills including\nexperience working with the media. \n* Must be highly organized, motivated, and able to work well\nindependently\nand in a team setting. \n* Knowledge base of Boston and its neighborhoods and Massachusetts is\ndesirable.  \n* Ability to speak and\/or write in more than one language is a plus. \n* Ability to work as needed in the evening and on weekends. \n\nDiversity in organizational practice is a core value of The Medical\nFoundation resulting in culturally competent services, materials,\nresources,\nand programs.
