Each year, EIS provides approximately 90 persons, who have been selected from around the world, opportunities to gain hands-on experience in epidemiology at CDC or state or local health departments. EIS Officers, often called CDC&#8217;s &#8220;disease detectives,&#8221; have gone on to occupy leadership positions at CDC and other public health agencies nationally and internationally. However, the experience also is useful for health professionals who want to gain a population health perspective.<\/p>\n<p>Persons with a strong interest in applied epidemiology who meet at least one of the following qualifications may apply to EIS:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> physicians with <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">&gt;<\/span>1 year of clinical training;<\/li>\n<li> persons with a PhD, DrPH, or other doctoral degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, the social or behavioral sciences, natural sciences, or the nutrition sciences;<\/li>\n<li> dentists, physician assistants, and nurses with an MPH or equivalent degree; or<\/li>\n<li> veterinarians with an MPH or equivalent degree or relevant public health experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications are now being accepted for the July 2009-June 2011\u00a0EIS Program.
