The objective of this training program is to produce independent investigators who have a strong interdisciplinary foundation in applied research settings, healthcare systems and quality improvement, and evaluation methods. <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The trainees will:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Conduct      research in their stated field of interest with a primary mentor<\/li>\n<li>Prepare      papers for publication in scholarly journals<\/li>\n<li>Design      a research proposal for possible external funding<\/li>\n<li>Participate      in seminars and attend formal courses as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The program will provide an individualized Career Development Plan with activities geared to each scholar&#8217;s career level, interests, and learning needs.\u00a0 Each plan will be formulated in collaboration with the scholar, the scholar&#8217;s faculty mentors and the program directors. Trainees will be encouraged to develop a mentoring team with Program faculty from multiple disciplines (Medicine and Public Health, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Public Affairs).<\/p>\n<p>Trainees can choose from a variety of research areas including:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Translating      research into practice and policy<\/li>\n<li>Patient      safety and quality<\/li>\n<li>Quality      improvement<\/li>\n<li>Patient-centered      care<\/li>\n<li>Payments,      markets, and organization<\/li>\n<li>Healthcare      disparities<\/li>\n<li>Large      database methods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Post-doctoral trainees, who have completed PhD or MD education, will be selected based on substantial previous research training and research goals consistent with ongoing faculty projects.
