{"id":557,"date":"2008-06-05T14:19:03","date_gmt":"2008-06-05T19:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mchtulane.wordpress.com\/?p=147"},"modified":"2008-06-05T14:19:03","modified_gmt":"2008-06-05T19:19:03","slug":"emergency-planner-city-of-philadelphia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thatscourtney.space\/blueprint\/emergency-planner-city-of-philadelphia\/","title":{"rendered":"Emergency planner &#8211; City of Philadelphia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OFFICE OF THE MANAGING DIRECTOR<br \/>\nEMERGENCY MANAGEMENT<br \/>\nOFFICE TITLE:<br \/>\nHEALTH AND MEDICAL PLANNER<br \/>\nGENERAL OVERVIEW<br \/>\nThe Office of Emergency Management (OEM) works to mitigate, plan, and<br \/>\nprepare for emergencies; educate the public about preparedness; coordinate<br \/>\nemergency response and recovery efforts; and develop tools and identify<br \/>\nresources to support the overall preparedness of the City of Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>This position assists with the development, strategic planning,<br \/>\nimplementation, coordination, and evaluation of an integrated preparedness<br \/>\nprogram to meet the health and medical needs of the citizens of<br \/>\nPhiladelphia, under the direction of the Health and Medical Program<br \/>\nManager. Emergency Management Planners work closely with numerous City,<br \/>\nregional, state and community groups to ensure the City&#8217;s preparedness and<br \/>\neffective response.<br \/>\nAll OEM staff are required to work during non-business hours for extended<br \/>\nperiods of time as needed in a field environment and during activations of<br \/>\nthe Emergency Operations Center (EOC). OEM Staff also serve in an on-call<br \/>\ncapacity on rotating field response teams.<br \/>\nSuccessful candidates must be City residents within six months of hire.<br \/>\nCandidates should possess a strong desire to be a team member working in a<br \/>\nfast-paced, professional public-safety environment, and a willingness to<br \/>\nserve the public in the sixth-largest city in the nation.<br \/>\nTYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK<br \/>\nUnder the direction of the Program Manager, the Planner is responsible for<br \/>\na range of preparedness activities including, but not limited to, the<br \/>\nfollowing:<br \/>\nSuccessful completion of required courses to gain working knowledge of a<br \/>\nvariety of healthcare, public health, and environmental safety issues,<br \/>\nfamiliarization with primary stakeholders, and other fundamentals of the<br \/>\npractice of emergency management.<br \/>\nResearching best practices for a variety of health and medical related<br \/>\nissues such as healthcare facility preparedness, disease control and<br \/>\nprevention, worker health and safety, hazardous materials, and casualty<br \/>\nand fatality management.<br \/>\nDeveloping and enhancing preparedness messages for inclusion in the City&#8217;s<br \/>\nemergency preparedness education campaign.<br \/>\nIdentifying and collecting resource information related to service<br \/>\norganizations including but not limited to: hospitals, health centers,<br \/>\nhomecare agencies, emergency medical services, long-term care,<br \/>\nuniversities, and local, state, and federal agencies that govern public<br \/>\nhealth, medical and environmental safety services.<br \/>\nWriting and updating assigned elements of citywide emergency plans for<br \/>\nmeeting essential healthcare and emergency medical services needs during<br \/>\nthe preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation phases of emergency<br \/>\nmanagement.<br \/>\nDeveloping and maintaining partnerships with a variety of stakeholders<br \/>\nfrom local, state and federal government as well as community-based<br \/>\norganizations, non-profit organizations and private entities.<br \/>\nConducting special projects.<br \/>\nPerforming other work as required.<br \/>\nREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES<br \/>\nStrong interpersonal skills<br \/>\nAbility to communicate effectively orally and in writing<br \/>\nAbility to work as a team member<br \/>\nStrong leadership and negotiation skills<br \/>\nAbility to problem solve creatively<br \/>\nAbility to interpret federal and state emergency management requirements<br \/>\nand regulations<br \/>\nAbility to manage multiple projects in a high pressure work environment<br \/>\nAbility to complete projects on schedule<br \/>\nAbility to coordinate diverse groups toward a common goal<br \/>\nAbility to maintain effective working relationships and develop<br \/>\npartnerships<br \/>\nProficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel,<br \/>\nAccess)<br \/>\nMINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE<br \/>\nEDUCATION<br \/>\nCompletion of a bachelor&#8217;s degree from an accredited college in planning,<br \/>\nmanagement, healthcare, public administration or a related field.<br \/>\nAND GENERAL EXPERIENCE<br \/>\nExperience working within an emergency management, public health or<br \/>\nhealthcare organization is preferred but not required.<br \/>\nFamiliarity with healthcare and emergency medical services within the City<br \/>\nof Philadelphia is preferred but not required.<br \/>\nAn equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field<br \/>\nwill be considered pending approval by OEM and the Personnel Department.<\/p>\n<p>LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND\/OR CERTIFICATES<br \/>\nPossession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator&#8217;s license as<br \/>\nissued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania within six months of<br \/>\nappointment and during tenure of appointment with the City of<br \/>\nPhiladelphia.<br \/>\nPHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS<br \/>\nAbility to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental<br \/>\nconditions required of a position in this class.<br \/>\nPAY RANGE: up to $50,000 per year.<br \/>\nPlease submit the following documents to <a
