\nThe Community Prevention and Intervention Unit (CPIU) of the Department
\nof Allied Health at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, works to
\nprevent disease and promote health by designing and conducting risk
\nreduction interventions, prevention research, evaluation, and training.
\nWe value the diversity of our local, national, and international
\ncommunities and strive to conduct our work with respect and compassion.
\nCPIU is comprised of over 50 professionals in epidemiology, prevention
\nresearch, health education, prevention counseling, evaluation research,
\ntraining in behavioral intervention, planning, community assessment and
\nintervention design. The staff specializes in working closely with
\ncommunities to develop and implement effective programs.
\nThe unit conducts epidemiological and intervention research in HIV
\nprevention; it is one of 5 sites conducting HIV incidence studies and
\none of 3 sites looking at the implementation issues of social and
\nenvironmental HIV prevention programs. CPIU operates an HIV counseling
\nand testing program, prevention counseling services, street outreach
\nprevention efforts and houses one of 4 National HIV\/STD Prevention
\nBehavioral Intervention-Training centers in the U.S. The unit also
\nprovides technical assistance to Community Planning Groups (CPG) and HIV
\nprevention contractors throughout the state of Texas in the areas of
\ncommunity assessment, capacity building, planning and evaluation.
\nThe EduCAPE section of CPIU is directly responsible for providing
\ntechnical assistance in the form of capacity building, prevention
\nprogram planning, monitoring\/evaluation and qualitative research to
\ncommunity-based organizations, prevention providers, and community
\nplanning groups throughout the state of Texas. EduCAPE delivers high
\nquality educational workshops, presentations and intervention programs
\nto the community in the areas of HIV\/AIDS & STD prevention and care
\nservices.<\/p>\n
We are currently looking for a person to fill a Research Assistant II
\n(08-38041) Position in the EduCAPE section.<\/p>\n
Overall Responsibility:<\/p>\n
The Research Assistant II will have responsibility for coordinating the
\ntravel and logistics for members of the Texas Statewide Community
\nPlanning Group. He\/she will also be responsible for planning and
\nconducting needs assessments with underserved populations along with
\nanalyzing the data collected from those assessments. He\/She will provide
\ntechnical assistance that focuses on capacity building opportunities for
\nCPG members and state funded HIV prevention contractors.<\/p>\n
Specific Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n
Work as a technical assistance provider for the Statewide CPG;<\/p>\n
Conduct literature reviews for current articles highlighting new
\nevidence based interventions and research related to community
\nassessment and community planning goals;<\/p>\n
Plan, coordinate and facilitate qualitative research studies with
\nunderserved populations;<\/p>\n
Work as apart of a larger team to develop, design and update training
\ncurriculum for capacity building opportunities;<\/p>\n
Maintain strong, collaborative, and supportive communications with the
\nassigned projects;<\/p>\n
Contribute to the writing and presentation of scientific abstracts and
\nreports for submission to contract agency and for presentation at state
\nand national conferences;<\/p>\n
Coordinate travel and logistics for members of Statewide CPG;<\/p>\n
Provide and facilitate HIV \/ AIDS technical direction, education and
\ntraining to staff, community health workers and community members<\/p>\n
Requirements:<\/p>\n
Education: BA\/BS degree in epidemiology, community health, social and
\nbehavioral science, public health or related field. MPH, MS or MSPH
\ndegree preferred.<\/p>\n
Experience: BA\/BS degree Minimum two (2) years experience of full time
\nwork in community health, HIV prevention, epidemiology, behavioral
\nscience or related field. MPH\/MSPH\/MS Minimum one (1) year experience
\nof full time work in community health, HIV prevention, epidemiology,
\nbehavioral science or related field. Bilingual in Spanish preferred but
\nnot required.<\/p>\n
Excellent oral and writing skills in English, including demonstrated
\ntechnical writing skills for publication<\/p>\n
Proficient knowledge of the principles and current approaches to social
\nand behavioral theory<\/p>\n
Strong background in research methods, and experience in the design,
\nimplementation and analysis of research studies (quantitative and\/or
\nqualitative)<\/p>\n
Ability to contribute to capacity-building efforts and work with
\ncolleagues in diverse cultures<\/p>\n
Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while working as part
\nof a team<\/p>\n
Proficiency in current versions of Windows, Word Perfect, Microsoft
\nWord; and Microsoft PowerPoint; familiarity with database and
\nspreadsheet programs, such as Microsoft Excel and Access, email
\nprograms, and Internet.<\/p>\n
Willingness to travel (approx 30%)<\/p>\n
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated ability to
\ninteract effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and
\nprofessional arenas and sensitivity to cultural, racial, and sexual
\ndiversity<\/p>\n
Salary: low to mid 30s<\/p>\n
