Darfur Program Director
\nSudan<\/p>\n
Mercy Corps is seeking a Darfur Program Director in Sudan. Mercy Corps
\nis currently implementing $31 million in grants throughout Sudan. Relief
\nactivities are on-going in West Darfur, where Mercy Corps is meeting the
\nimmediate needs of more than 150,000 conflict-affected people while also
\nlaying the foundation for households’ recovery, through skills building,
\neducation, and psychosocial programming. Apart from Darfur, Mercy Corps
\nworks along the north\/ south border and is facilitating recovery by
\naddressing short-term economic recovery needs for nearly 300,000 people,
\nwhile laying the groundwork for long-term development. Additionally, we
\nare building capacity for more than 70 civil society partners. All these
\nactivities span many sectors, including agriculture, market and
\nlivelihoods development, water\/ sanitation, capacity building, peace
\nbuilding, infrastructure rehabilitation, education, camp management,
\nprotection and emergency distribution. Mercy Corps maintains twelve
\noffices and sub-offices throughout the country.<\/p>\n
The Darfur Program Director provides overall management and direction
\nfor the agency’s humanitarian program in and around Darfur. S\/He moves
\nthroughout the region in order to forge necessary partnerships, oversee
\noperations, assess and develop response options, seek funding and
\nposition the agency for longer-term programming in the region if
\nrequired. The Darfur Program Director manages all staff working in the
\nDarfur region and those supporting the Darfur operations in Sudan. S\/He
\nrepresents the agency’s Darfur humanitarian assistance program with
\ngovernmental representatives, UN agencies, donors, other humanitarian
\nagencies, vendors, and the media.<\/p>\n
Responsibilities: Coordinate and supervise the implementation of all of
\nMercy Corps’ humanitarian response activities in Darfur and in close
\ncooperation with supporting managers to ensure that program goals and
\nobjectives are met or exceeded. Lead and coordinate new program
\ndevelopment activities that reflect humanitarian needs, available
\nfunding, staff security, and agency capacity. Ensure that Sphere
\nguidelines are incorporated into design and implementation efforts.
\nManage international and national program staff, and conduct training,
\nevaluations, promotions, discipline, and termination, in accordance with
\nthe Mercy Corps Policy and Procedures Manual. Additional duties

REQUIREMENTS: BA\/BS in a relevant field, MA or MS preferred. 5 years’
\nmulti-sector field management experience including emergency relief,
\nhealth, engineering, agriculture and\/or infrastructure repair projects.
\n2 years successful experience with grant management and budget oversight
\nas well as personnel development and management. Arabic language skills
\nand familiarity with local cultural and religious norms preferred.
