For additional information, visit our website at http:\/\/www.aed.org.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Disabilities \/Mental Health Specialist <\/strong><\/h1>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" width=\"91%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"26%\" valign=\"top\"><strong>Position Summary:<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"72%\">The Disabilities\/Mental Health   Specialist serves as a resource to Head Start Program staff and grantees in   all areas of disabilities and mental health services. \u00a0The Disabilities\/Mental   Health Specialist works with Head Start grantee staff and parents to address   needs of children&#8217;s behavioral, emotional and mental health concerns,   and provides technical assistance enabling grantees to include children with   disabilities and meet their special needs and those of their parents.<\/td>\n<td width=\"1%\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"1%\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"26%\" valign=\"top\"><strong>Essential Job Functions:<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"72%\">\n<p>Specific responsibilities   include but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Assist grantees to develop and   to implement agreements with those responsible for assuring special education   and mental health services to preschool children at local and state levels. Support   grantee and families&#8217; efforts to secure ongoing services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Build new partnerships with agencies to bring   additional resources to grantees and families. Build partnerships with the   local state agencies and the Senior Early Childhood Associate of the   Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, University Affiliated Programs,   and Developmental Disabilities Councils. Establish and maintain linkages   among the State Mental Health Agencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Support federal efforts to promote inclusion of   children with disabilities and children with challenging behaviors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Assist grantees to address disabilities and   mental deficiencies successfully and to implement Quality Improvement Plans.   Collect, maintain, and disseminate training materials and resources to   support disabilities and mental health services for children, families, and   staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Provide progress reports.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Support locally based training and technical   assistance specialists.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Analyze Head Start Program Information Report   (PIR) data to determine areas for improvement and recommendations for T\/TA   strategies to address disabilities and mental health needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Provide on-going information relevant to the   Head Start Program areas and other information at the direction of the   project director via posting on the Web site, through email, mail, fax and   phone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Design, plan and conduct relevant training   sessions at conferences, seminars, and workshops for small and large groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Develop, write, and submit articles, papers and   workshops for presentation at national conferences as well as any ACYF\/HSB   functions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Develop mental health partnerships that foster   wellness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Develop and disseminate prevention strategies   that will decrease stress with children, families, and staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Increase awareness and knowledge of epidemic   issues such as obesity, autism, diabetes, asthma, fetal alcohol syndrome and   other childhood related trauma.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Perform other supervisor assigned annual work   plan related job responsibilities and activities in a timely and professional   manner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Perform any other duties as assigned by the   Director.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"1%\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"26%\" valign=\"top\"><strong>Education: <\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"72%\">Masters   in one of the following or related fields: Degree in special education,   education or the social sciences.<\/td>\n<td width=\"1%\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"3\" width=\"100%\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><strong>Experience:<\/strong><\/td>\n<td colspan=\"2\" width=\"73%\">10 year(s) of relevant experience required<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"> Specific Knowledge Requirements: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> .
