The community health educator plans, develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive health education programs with specific educational objectives; provides technical and in-service training; conducts community health assessments; and performs related work as required. It includes the preparation, selection, procurement and dissemination of health information; use of all mass media and visual aides; health education program direction and technical assistance to professionals and the general public.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DUTIES\/RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Develops and plans health education programs and services for the New Orleans CLPPP<\/li>\n<li> Develops, organizes, and conducts programs of staff education and in-service training<\/li>\n<li> Establishes and maintains reference files on sources of health education materials for use by the staff of the New Orleans CLPPP and the community.<\/li>\n<li> Prepares news releases, feature articles, radio programs and other publicity programs<\/li>\n<li> Prepares reports, brochures and related materials on public health subjects<\/li>\n<li> Collaborates with health specialists, public, civic, professional, and voluntary agencies to ascertain community health needs, determine availability of services, and to develop goals.<\/li>\n<li> Promotes health discussions in schools and community agencies.<\/li>\n<li> Design and conduct community assessment<\/li>\n<li> Plan and implement educational programs<\/li>\n<li> Coordinate activities with other agencies and groups<\/li>\n<li> Evaluate the effectiveness of health education within assigned areas of responsibility, using pre- and post-program data to measure a program&#8217;s effectiveness against pre-established goals and objectives.<\/li>\n<li> Develop and maintain resource files<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Knowledge\/Skills:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Thorough knowledge and understanding of public health, of health information and promotion techniques and behavioral science and\/or communication theory.<\/li>\n<li> Ability to plan, implement and evaluate health education programs and act as a resource person<\/li>\n<li> Ability to develop innovative techniques to reach populations with appropriate and useful health information.<\/li>\n<li> Good interpersonal skills.<\/li>\n<li> Good communication and presentation skills.<\/li>\n<li> Possess knowledge of principles of health behavior, preventive medicine and epidemiology.<\/li>\n<li> Plan, implement and evaluate programs to impact attitudes, knowledge and behaviors for improved health.<\/li>\n<li> Operate a personal computer and utilize a variety of software programs including Microsoft Office and desktop publishing.<\/li>\n<li> Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.<\/li>\n<li> Communicate orally in a clear, concise manner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Education:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A bachelor&#8217;s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in health education or a closely related field.
