German Chancellor Fellowship<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

Germany’s Alexander von Humboldt Foundation awards ten German Chancellor Fellowships annually to young professionals in the private, public, not-for-profit, cultural and academic sectors who are citizens of the United States. The program, which also includes fellowships for citizens of the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China, sponsors individuals who demonstrate the potential to strengthen ties between Germany and their own country through their profession or studies.\u00a0 Prior knowledge of German is not a prerequisite. <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

The German Chancellor Fellowship provides for a stay of one year in Germany for profes\u00adsional development, study, or research.\u00a0 Applicants design individual projects and decide at which institutions or organizations to pursue them.\u00a0 Successful candidates have come from such fields as government, social and policy sciences, law, journalism, communications, management, finance, economics, architecture, public service, the humanities, the arts, and environmental affairs.\u00a0 Candidates from the life sciences and engineering will be considered if their topics have a compelling social or humanistic dimension.<\/p>\n

The program begins September 1 and lasts twelve months.\u00a0 It is preceded<\/span> by language classes in Germany.\u00a0 Monthly stipends range from 2,000 to 3,000 EUR, and allow\u00adances are available for accompanying family members, travel expenses, and introductory German lan\u00adguage instruction in the United States.\u00a0 A bachelor’s degree is required.\u00a0 Candidates must have received their degree after <\/span>September 1, 1997.\u00a0 Application<\/strong> deadline for 2009-2010 awards: October 31, 2008.<\/strong><\/p>\n
