The Henry L. Stimson Center is a nonprofit public policy institute<\/p>\n
committed to finding and promoting practical, innovative solutions to<\/p>\n
security challenges. The Stimson Center seeks a full-time Analyst to<\/p>\n
support its Regional Voices: Transnational Challenges project. Under<\/p>\n
the direction of the Project Director, the Analyst will be<\/p>\n
responsible for the project’s work on environmental change and its<\/p>\n
scientific\/technical, economic, political and social dimensions.<\/p>\n
The purpose of the project is to gather and analyze data and share<\/p>\n
information on non-US perspectives and priorities in relation to<\/p>\n
non-traditional security issues such as environmental change, public<\/p>\n
health, the maritime realm, the political economy of natural<\/p>\n
resources, migration, and natural disasters. Regional Voices conducts<\/p>\n
analytic work in collaboration with issue experts, policy analysts,<\/p>\n
and research institutions in the Middle East, South Asia, and<\/p>\n
Southeast Asia. The project has recently extended its work to North<\/p>\n
and East Africa.<\/p>\n
RESPONSIBILITIES<\/p>\n
“* Identify, recommend and implement strategies to improve<\/p>\n
understanding among US policy-makers of transnational security<\/p>\n
perspectives from the regions.<\/p>\n
“* Monitor, evaluate, and report on related developments<\/p>\n
“* Organize and participate in meetings in the regions and the US,<\/p>\n
digest and summarize meeting proceedings, and analyze patterns<\/p>\n
observed and their implications for US policy<\/p>\n
“* Develop and maintain networks of relationships in the regions.<\/p>\n
“* Carry out analytical writing for publication<\/p>\n
“* Review and prepare commissioned papers and other research for<\/p>\n
publication<\/p>\n
“* Coordinate outreach efforts in subject areas of responsibility,<\/p>\n
including the website presence<\/p>\n
QUALIFICATIONS:<\/p>\n
“* Advanced degree in scientific or technical discipline related to<\/p>\n
non-traditional security threats, or equivalent experience<\/p>\n
“* Approximately six to eight years of relevant experience<\/p>\n
“* Demonstrated record of analytical writing<\/p>\n
“* Experience in US foreign policy, especially US cooperation on<\/p>\n
non-traditional security issues in the specified regions<\/p>\n
“* Grasp of relationships among environmental change, economic<\/p>\n
trends, migration, natural disasters, conflict and political<\/p>\n
instability<\/p>\n
“* Field experience in subject areas in the specified regions<\/p>\n
“* Familiarity with South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Southwest<\/p>\n
Asia\/Gulf<\/p>\n
“* Knowledge of North and East Africa regional knowledge is desirable<\/p>\n
“* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with<\/p>\n
colleagues is critical<\/p>\n
“* Seasoned interpersonal skills particularly in cultural awareness<\/p>\n
and diplomacy<\/p>\n
“* Exceptional organizational skills to manage tight timelines with<\/p>\n
grace is important<\/p>\n
