\u00a0Duties:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

This is a 1 year non-permanent appointment. This position will both collaborate within DEL and with key state partners including the Department of Health, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Governor’s office and external stakeholders to support efforts to prevent childhood obesity per Governor Jay Inslee’s Healthiest Next Generation initiative (attached).<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\nThis position will serve as a key advisor to agency leadership on issues relating to childhood health, including how DEL can contribute to statewide efforts to increase physical activity, limit screen time, and enhance access to healthy food and beverages, including drinking water for all children and families.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\nThis one-year position will represent DEL in an inter-agency work group to establish performance metrics, best practices, strategies and identify funding and policy recommendations this summer for the Healthiest Next Generation initiative for use in the upcoming Legislative session.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\nThis position also will support DEL program administrators in identifying and implementing best practice strategies to boost childhood health focus in DEL programs and services, and will work with DEL child care health specialists to identify sustainable methods of sharing healthy programs and practices with child care providers.<\/span>

\n.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
This position serves as the Healthiest Next Generation Coordinator under the Partnerships and Collaboration Division. This position will participate in an interagency work group led by the Department of Health and including the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction to develop and implement a coordinated approach to reducing the burden of childhood obesity in Washington State, especially among populations disproportionately affected by the disease. This position will be responsible for working inside DEL to develop a unified approach to obesity prevention<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Tasks<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Identify programs and strategies in communities that have demonstrated success in increasing physical activity, access to healthy food and beverages, and reduced screen time among youth; highlighting those that increase health equity among populations with higher burden of childhood obesity<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Develop recommendations for expanding programs and strategies statewide in consultation with cross- office staff<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
