The Strong Start Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing a program to increase the breastfeeding rate and promote breastfeeding as a social norm.\u00a0 The Strong Start Program Coordinator should have content expertise in issues related to breastfeeding and maternal child health.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Qualifications include:<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
A bachelor\u2019s degree \u00a0in nursing, nutrition, public health, health sciences, or a closely related field; plus a minimum of two years of professional experience with project management and\/or program implementation.\u00a0 A master’s degree in\u00a0<\/span>a health-related<\/span>\u00a0field may be substituted for the required experience.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Programming<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Provide leadership to advance the Strong Start Breastfeeding Initiative as a part of the WIC Program<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Lead program development and implementation, including the implementation of an evidence-based peer support program for WIC sites<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Identify potential sources of funding to sustain the program<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00b7<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Partnerships<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Work with community partners on shared goals to improve health outcomes related to childhood obesity, nutrition, bonding and attachment<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Raise community awareness and educate about available services, the status of relevant legislation, and information regarding breastfeeding and other related maternal and child health issues through newsletters, pamphlets, public speaking, and other means<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\u00b7<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Professionalism<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–<\/span><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Represent the New Orleans Health Department in the community as needed<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–<\/span><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Serve as role model for staff, with a strong value on team-building, self-esteem building, and motivating staff<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
–<\/span><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Provide excellent customer service for both internal and external customers.\u00a0 Will approach all encounters with a warm, professional greeting and assist to problem solve whenever necessary.\u00a0 Will recognize when an issue needs further attention from a supervisor and inform management so that the problems can be addressed.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
