{"id":1167,"date":"2014-03-12T14:00:15","date_gmt":"2014-03-12T19:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mchtulane.wordpress.com\/?p=1167"},"modified":"2014-03-12T14:00:15","modified_gmt":"2014-03-12T19:00:15","slug":"practicum-opportunity-mother-baby-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thatscourtney.space\/blueprint\/practicum-opportunity-mother-baby-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Practicum opportunity: Mother-Baby Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><b>Practicum:<br \/>\nMother-Baby Care at Touro<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\" align=\"center\"><b>\u00a0<\/b>More and more women opt for a care plan in which mothers and babies are not separated.\u00a0 Research proves there are many benefits to mother-baby care, creating more opportunities for skin-to-skin contact which promotes early bonding, reduces hypothermia and facilitates breastfeeding.\u00a0 Placing mother and child in the same room is a more family-centered approach that also eases the parents\u2019 and child\u2019s transition from hospital to home.<\/p>\n<p>At Touro\u2019s state-of-the-art Family Birthing Center 3,368 babies were born last year.\u00a0 However, the hospital\u2019s traditional location-centered practice model places post-partum mothers in private rooms and newborns in the well baby nursery or NICU, depending on their needs.\u00a0 Although infants visit mothers frequently, time for skin-to-skin contact is somewhat limited.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.touro.com\/\">www.touro.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0By the year 2015, Touro plans to fully implement a Mother-Baby Care plan based on national best practices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0This practicum is an opportunity for a public health student in Maternal and Child Health.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>QUALIFICATIONS:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Ability to thoroughly research topic from a variety of sources<\/li>\n<li>Interest in maternal\/child care as a public health issue<\/li>\n<li>Flexible team player who can work comfortably in a diverse workplace<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ACTIVITES include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Researching Mother-Baby Care Units at hospitals throughout the U.S. and indicating what does\/does not work and why<\/li>\n<li>Identifying best practices from the above<\/li>\n<li>Presenting above findings to the Family Birthing Center staff<\/li>\n<li>Interviewing senior staff who were present when Touro tried this plan previously and reporting on findings<\/li>\n<li>Identifying resources and making recommendations for staff training and attending all staff trainings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is 300-hour volunteer practicum.\u00a0 To apply, please send your cover letter and resume to <a href=\"mailto:Denise.Chetta@Touro.com\">Denise.Chetta@Touro.com<\/a>, who will share them with the Family Birthing Center staff for review.\u00a0 <b>Deadline for applications:\u00a0 March 31, 2014.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Practicum: Mother-Baby Care at Touro \u00a0More and more women opt for a care plan in which mothers and babies are not separated.\u00a0 Research proves there are many benefits to mother-baby care, creating more opportunities for skin-to-skin contact which promotes early bonding, reduces hypothermia and facilitates breastfeeding.\u00a0 Placing mother and child in the same room is [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[53,54,38,24,55,7,56],"class_list":["post-1167","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-general-posts","tag-infant-health","tag-maternal-health","tag-mch","tag-new-orleans","tag-perinatal-health","tag-practicum","tag-volunteer"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
