As a scholar in the Maternal and Child Health Leadership Training Program (MCHLT), I had the opportunity to go to Boston for the 2013 Annual American Public Health Association (APHA) conference. Prior to the conference, we were given a lot of material and guidance to prepare for it.<\/p>\n
APHA was tiring, overwhelming, and slightly intimidating, but it was, no doubt, worth every minute. Though I had some goals for attending the conference (mainly more clarity in my career path), I went not really knowing what to expect or gain from it. I had no idea that the oral presentations on current research in the field, meeting Public Health professionals from all ages and backgrounds, and poster sessions would be so inspiring and informative!<\/p>\n
I think what was great about APHA is that it allowed me to step outside of my bubble of school and see that what I\u2019m learning in classes is being implemented in the field and making a difference in policy, research, and people\u2019s lives across the U.S. and the world.\u00a0 Honestly, it was quite intimidating at first, but after speaking with presenters and other students and professionals throughout the conference, I realized we were all there to support and work with each other and support the field of Public Health as a whole. From that, the most important lesson I learned: you are never too young to start doing what you\u2019re passionate about! I came back more energized and inspired by all the work everyone is doing, I\u2019m ready to be a part of it! I\u2019m so thankful for this opportunity and for the MCHLT program for providing support for my learning and my career growth!<\/p>\n
